MSP 2013: Participation Round - Sailor Phoenix

1. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to us.
Hey there! I’m Sailor Phoenix, Senshi of Fire and Rebirth, or Zoe Kenneth, as I’m known in my mundane everyday life. Nice to meet ya!

2. Tell us something that will help us remember you.
Okay, something interesting then? Right, I’m the leader of my team, I’m Welsh (but I live in Oxford and go to the university there), and I have the attention span of a gn- Oh, hey, look! There’s a squirrel running towards that tree outside! *runs to the window* Do you see it? It’s so cute!

3. Describe your typical day.
*Sits back down* Wow, a typical day? My days haven’t really been typical since I started this whole ‘saving the world’ gig. I suppose, usually, I get up, get dressed, have breakfast, brush my teeth and ride my bike to university. Or to work. Depends on the day. There is usually a confrontation of some sort at some point, gets a bit annoying. Then again, the days when I don’t have to fight are the ones I worry about, like, if there are three or four days in a row when nothing happens. In my experience, it usually means that something big is coming. Not always, but yeah, usually.

4. What makes you happy and what makes you scared?
Well, being with my friends, obviously, but I’m definitely most happy when I’m dancing. I can just move to the music and get everything out of my system. It is very relaxing to just let go and let my body move to the beat of the music. Hip hop and ballet are definitely my favourite styles. I love the waltz and quickstep when I have to dance as a couple with somebody. *Crosses her arms* Still, it bugs me that I haven’t been able to win a single competition since Blanche, that’s Sailor Cygnus, showed up...

Oops, sorry, I’m rambling, aren’t I? Right, what scares me? Losing this war and the people I love, I suppose *shrugs*. I’ve already been unable to protect some of the Zodiacs from being taken by Ophiuchus and her forces. I think losing Leo would just tear me up inside since... well... he... I... *blushes* Ahem, what was the next question?

5. What do you find most challenging about being a senshi?
Well, I’ve never heard that word before. I’m going to take a guess; it means this ‘Sailor Soldier’ thing, right?

Well, good lord, what isn’t challenging about being a Sailor Soldier? First of all, there’s the fact that it’s getting harder and harder to get anything done. My ability to finish assignments for uni on time has suffered, not that I was all that great at getting them done well anyway. It’s pretty difficult to study for exams or attend classes either, what with all the fighting I have to do. That’s another thing, the fighting. I keep having to explain the numerous cuts, scrapes and bruises I get from them. I can usually pass them off as dancing accidents or me falling off of my bike, but there have been a few that were less explainable. Like that one time I got a snake bite on my arm. Good thing Columba was there for that one...

Not getting myself killed and trying to live my own life are definitely the biggest challenges for me.

6. Who is your role model and how do they inspire you?
Would you believe that I’ve never actually thought about who my role model is? I do look up to a lot of professional dancers, but I’ve never bothered to properly learn about who they are. *Scratches cheek* Maybe that’s something I should think about doing.

But yeah, I think each of my friends inspire me and give me the drive to be better in one way or another. So, I’ll go with them.

7. What would you name your autobiography?
I honestly have no idea. I’d probably call it something sucky and completely obvious like: “Rising from the Ashes” or “Through the Fire”. Paloma (Sailor Columba) is better at this kind of thing than I am.

8. Do you believe in fate/destiny, or do you believe you write your own story?
If you had asked me this a few months ago, I would have said that I write my own story and carve my own way through the world. Now that I’ve become Sailor Phoenix, I definitely think that destiny and fate come into play in my life quite a bit.

9. Do you have other teammates? What are they like? If not, do you wish you had some?
Sure, I have loads of other teammates. If I want to get technical, there are 88... Well, 87... Okay, I’m not completely sure of the total number, I hate maths. Lots of them are animals or objects, and one is my big enemy. So, the answer is lots, but my official team is made up of just nine people. *Starts to count them off on her fingers* There’s Apus, who is my best friend. Then there’s Pavo, who is very motherly to all of us. Grus is definitely the tank of our team, the strong and silent type for sure. Columba is really sweet; I wish she’d speak up a little more often. Aquila is kinda like Grus, but boy does she speak her mind, she’s an awesome guitarist too. Corvus gets on my nerves a little; she should really cool it with the pranks. Tucana loves to be the centre of attention, a real party animal. Finally, there’s Cygnus... Yeah, me and her don’t get along well at all.

I would consider Leo and the rest of the Zodiac Guardians, the ones that aren’t under Ophiuchus’ control, obviously, as a part of my team, but they kind of have their own way of doing things.

Doesn’t stop us from working together sometimes, though.

10. What do you hope to accomplish by competing in this pageant?
Well, I haven’t seen Cygnus here yet, so I have a better chance of winning this thing. Plus, it looks like fun.

11. Do you have anyone special out there cheering for you? Would you like to give them a shout out?
Sure, I think all of my friends will be cheering for me. Wish me luck, guys!

About the Art:

As you can probably tell, Phoenix is a bit overconfident and loves to talk. Sorry about that

But I am pretty proud of this, I certainly need to practice hands and flames, but other than that, I'm proud of myself for not copying a reference pose completely ^_^

Anyway, I saw #Senshi-Pageant and thought that it might be fun, I'm also looking forward to getting critique so I can continue to improve in my art and character creation.

I'm still not sure whether this needs anything else to the background, something is telling me that it does need something more, but I don't want to accidentally ruin the whole thing. I'll see how I feel in a few hours, I just want to get this entered before the time is up.
